Fares and Passes

Every rider needs proof of payment while travelling on Niagara Transit. Niagara Transit supervisors board buses regularly to check fares, so keep yours handy.

Valid proof of payment includes:

• A valid 10-ride or 31-day pass
• A valid transfer
• A mobile ticket or transfer in the Transit app
• A Brock University student card with a valid U-Pass sticker
• A Niagara College U-Pass in the Transit app

Paying cash? Ask your operator for a transfer. It’s your proof of payment.

If you pay a youth or senior fare, your operator may ask for photo ID. Youth riders can show secondary school ID.

Under By-law 2022-02, riders without proof of payment may be asked to leave the vehicle.

10-ride and 31-day passes are valid on all Niagara Transit buses and all Niagara Transit Plus services.

• 31-day pass: unlimited rides for 31 days from first use.
• 10-ride pass: 10 rides. It expires 180 days after first use, or when all 10 rides are used, whichever comes first.

Passes can’t be transferred to another person. All pass purchases are final. No refunds, credits, or exchanges, and lost or stolen passes can’t be replaced. Sign your pass before you use it.

Transit app: single rides, 10-ride passes and 31-day passes.

In person: buy 10-ride and 31-day passes at retail locations across Niagara. Pass types and availability vary by store.

• Exact change only. Operators can’t make change.
• Fare boxes take coins and count your money as you insert it.
• U.S. currency is accepted at par.
• Debit and credit aren’t accepted on board.

Niagara Transit Plus includes Microtransit and Specialized Transit. It uses the same fares as the bus, and your passes work there too. Transfers work both ways, so you can switch between a bus and a Niagara Transit Plus vehicle on the same trip.

A transfer covers two hours of travel to continue your trip, with as many transfers as you need. Transfers can’t be used for a return trip, even within two hours.

Transfers work on all Niagara Transit buses and Niagara Transit Plus vehicles.

1. Pay your fare when you board and ask your operator for a transfer.
2. Take your transfer from the fare box.
3. Show it to the operator when you board your next bus or vehicle. Keep it if you’re transferring again.

Lost transfers can’t be replaced. Hang on to yours until your trip is done.

Using a pass? 31-day pass holders don’t need a transfer. If you’re using a 10-ride pass, ask for one so your next bus doesn’t use another ride.

Using the Transit app? Your transfer is built into your mobile ticket. Scan it on the reader when you change vehicles.

Your Brock student card is your bus pass as long as it has a valid U-Pass sticker. Your card can’t be used by anyone else. Misuse will be reported to Brock Campus Security.

Eligible Niagara College students can use the U-Pass in the Transit app as their bus pass. For questions, contact the Niagara College Student Administrative Council (NCSAC).

Show your ID to the operator when you board.

• Children 12 and under
• CNIB card holders and their support persons (show your CNIB card)
• One support person travelling with a fare-paying rider who needs help (Support person card provided by Niagara Transit)
• Niagara Transit Commission employees (show your employee ID card)
• Active duty military members (show your Canadian Armed Forces ID)
• Veterans (show your Canadian Armed Forces Veteran’s Service Card)
• First responders on duty (in uniform or with service ID)
