Become a Transit Bus Operator
Operators are the face of Niagara Transit. It’s demanding, people-facing work that keeps the region connected, and it comes with full pay, benefits, and paid training.
Before you apply, check that you qualify
- Minimum 5 years driving experience
- Minimum 3 years with a full Ontario G licence
- A clean 3-year driver’s abstract, dated within 3 months of applying
- No infractions, offences, convictions, demerit points or accidents on that abstract

What operators do, and what it takes
Skills you’ll bring
- Excellent communication and social perceptiveness
- Ability to follow maps and GPS
- Strong problem-solving and time management
- Strong hand-eye coordination and short-term memory
- Clear, concise report and form writing
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- A knack for good public relations
What you’ll do
- Complete a daily vehicle inspection to CVOR standards before each shift
- Operate the bus safely and on time in all road and weather conditions
- Monitor the farebox and collect proper fares
- Stay current on service changes, fares and the Highway Traffic Act
- Report defects, blockages, accidents and road conditions to the Supervisor
- Complete accident and incident reports
- Respond courteously to the public and stay polite under pressure
- Communicate professionally over the two-way radio
The work is physically and emotionally demanding and includes assisting riders with disabilities in sensitive situations.
