Three ways to pay your fare
On your phone
Buy single rides, 10-ride and 31-day passes in the Transit app. Your transfer is built into your mobile ticket.
On the bus
Fare boxes accept coins and paper money and count your payment as you insert it. US currency accepted at par.
Bring exact change. Operators can’t make change, and there’s no debit, credit or PRESTO on board.
In person
Buy 10-ride cards at retail locations across Niagara.
You may pay less, or nothing at all

- Children 12 and under
- CNIB cardholders and their support person
- Support persons travelling with a rider who needs assistance
- Active-duty military
- Veterans with a Canadian Armed Forces Veteran’s Service Card
- First responders on duty
- Niagara Transit Commission employees
Pay less
- Youth 13–17, or anyone with secondary school ID
- Seniors 65 and over
- Brock and Niagara College students with a valid U-Pass
Support Person Pass
If you need an attendant to travel, they ride free across Niagara. The pass costs nothing.
Transit Benefit Pass
Lower income? You may qualify for a $50 monthly pass, a saving of $50 off the adult rate.
The operator may ask adults for photo ID when paying a discounted fare.
Keep your proof for the whole trip
Valid proof of payment
Supervisors board buses regularly to check fares. Valid proof includes:
- A fare card loaded with a valid pass or transfer
- A paper ticket or transfer
- A student card with a valid U-Pass
- A mobile ticket or transfer in the Transit app
Using a transfer
- Pay your fare and ask the operator for a transfer.
- Show your transfer when you board your next bus.
- Making a second connection? Hold onto it. Transfers work for two hours across conventional buses, Microtransit and Niagara Transit Plus.
Paid cash? Ask the operator for a transfer, that’s your proof of payment. Under By-law 2022-02, riders without proof of payment may be asked to leave the vehicle.
You don’t need a transfer if you have a 31-day pass. Just show your pass.
Pass rules and the fine print
31-day pass rules
Your pass is valid only for the start and end dates printed on it. Sign line A before your first ride. Passes are non-transferable and non-refundable, and we can’t replace lost or stolen passes.
Refunds and exchanges
All pass purchases are final. We don’t offer refunds, credits or exchanges on any fare product.
Paying with US currency
US cash is accepted at par in the fare box. You won’t receive change, so use exact amounts.
Two things that don’t work on Niagara Transit
Coming from Toronto, Hamilton or the Falls? A couple of common fare mix-ups to know before you board.
We don’t accept PRESTO
PRESTO cards work on GO Transit, the TTC, Hamilton’s HSC and other GTHA systems, but not on Niagara Transit. Tapping a PRESTO card won’t pay your fare here. Pay with the Transit app, exact cash, a 10-ride card or a 31-day pass instead.
WEGO is a separate service
WEGO is run by Niagara Parks and has its own fares. Niagara Transit fares, passes and transfers don’t work on WEGO, and WEGO fares don’t work on us.
