Progress since amalgamation
Since becoming one system in 2023, we’ve made transit in Niagara simpler, more affordable, and more reliable. Here are some highlights from 2025.

One fare, anywhere
Replaced separate $6 regional and $3 local fares with a single $3.50 fare across every service, opening up the whole region to riders.
Launched the Transit Benefit Pass
A $50 monthly pass for residents on Ontario Works, ODSP, or a low-income threshold. 5,176 passes sold in the first months, a 338% jump over the old discounted pass.
Adopted our first 10-year Master Plan
Approved in principle in June 2025, our first long-term plan sets the framework for expanding transit across every community through 2035.
Assessed 1,800+ bus stops for accessibility
Completed a system-wide review of every stop against provincial accessibility standards, guiding improvements under our Multi-Year Accessibility Plan.
New service to Dain City
Rerouted the Port Colborne Link to bring hourly service to Dain City, connecting it to both Welland and Port Colborne.
Eliminated radio dead zones
Improved tower coverage so operators and supervisors now stay in contact across the entire region, a real safety gain.

The 10-Year Master Plan
Our Facilities, Strategic Asset, and Service Network Master Plan is the roadmap for transit in Niagara from 2026 to 2035. It rolls out in three stages.
A decade of growth, connection, and faster trips
Built on feedback from hundreds of residents, the plan delivers more direct “one-seat” journeys, faster travel, more frequent service, Sunday and overnight service, and fewer specialized trip denials.

Facilities, Strategic Asset & Service Network Master Plan
Our comprehensive review of infrastructure, routes, and operations, developed with consultant Left Turn Right Turn, that produced the 10-year plan for transit across Niagara.
Status: Approved in principle, June 2025 · community awareness campaign underway
Fleet Electrification Strategy & Implementation Study
A phased plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by moving to electric vehicles and infrastructure, while protecting operational reliability and value for taxpayers. Developed with Alectra Energy Solutions over a 25-year horizon.
Status: Final report expected Winter/Spring 2026

The first improvements from the Master Plan arrive this year.
Sunday & holiday service, network-wide
Our most-requested change. The full network runs 365 days a year, including regional routes and microtransit.
Fort Erie community bus
The Route 22 Fort Erie Link runs all day, interlined with a new community route reaching the South Niagara Hospital without a transfer.
Full transit coverage in Niagara Falls
Service extends to areas outside the old urban boundary, including community spaces that previously had none.
Improved specialized service in St. Catharines & Thorold
More capacity means more availability and shorter trips where demand has grown.
Entire fleet branded
Every vehicle, conventional, microtransit, and support, carries unified Niagara Transit branding.
Continued advocacy for funding
Ongoing federal and provincial pre-budget submissions to secure capital and operating support for transit.
